DCC’s long experience in Canada’s North is proving invaluable to the Real Property Operations North Program, as it supports more than  buildings in the region for the Department of National Defence (DND).

“There are so many moving parts that make the North unique, from its geography to its short construction season,” says Allyson Archer, Team Leader, Programs. “Managing infrastructure here involves a great team of knowledgeable people dedicated to making things go right, including impact assessments, regulatory and DND compliance management, consultation with Indigenous peoples, and operational logistics.”

The Program provides a complete range of project and program planning and delivery services, including specialist expertise in fire protection, energy management, and the environment. Its portfolio approach includes a National Capital Region-based headquarters group and four detachments, working closely with their DND counterparts, contractors, and local communities to serve:

  • The North Warning System radar sites;
  • The High Arctic, including Eureka and Alert;
  • Yellowknife, also supporting Inuvik, Rankin Inlet, Whitehorse and Iqaluit; and
  • 5 Wing Goose Bay.

“There are so many people who play a part in this. I want to highlight the work of so many coming together to do something so special and unique in the service of Canada’s sovereignty and security,” says Archer.
