DCC's Staffing Team—Andrea Copeland, Jessica Foster, David Mugford and Michelle Scheidegger—implemented a new support model in 2018, creating a business partnership between a single staffing coordinator and a region, and earning a nomination for the Customer Satisfaction–Team Award. "This has helped create a new level of satisfaction amongst the sites, which now have one dedicated person to assist with all their staffing needs," says nominator, Ian Quane, Team Leader, Programs and Policy. The Real Property Operations Support West and Pacific Teams—Erin Rice, Shawn Burns, Chris Mackenzie, Angelica Solyom and Michael Yegani—were nominated for the Service Development Award for their development of Joint Program Tracking tools. "The teams challenged themselves to create a tool that would add value to service delivery by gathering and combining all the DCC and DND data in a format that would be relevant and understood by both groups," says their nominator, Cherry Riley, Regional Service Line Leader, Contract Services. Working closely with their DND counterparts, they developed a tool tailored to both regions. Their approach built trust, removed communication barriers, and fostered positive relationships with DND.

Driving Innovation

As soon as Jacky Tam joined the DCC Suffield site as Coordinator, Construction Services in 2015, he started thinking about possible process improvements. His nominator for the Innovation Award, Administrative Assistant Tara Goddu, notes Jacky is a frequent contributor to the inCubator, and has already developed an electronic "Transparent Received Date Stamp" and an Excel document that tracks facilities management work orders and payments. Danny Bielesch, Regional Service Line Leader, Construction Services, explains: "Jacky has a knack for technology and he is always thinking about ways to optimize the use of our electronic tools. He shares these tools freely amongst his co-workers… What's more, Jacky doesn't need a formal process to innovate. He just does it. Jacky identifies a problem, develops a solution, tests it, and implements successful solutions."
