DCC presented its annual National Awards in early October, recognizing exemplary employee achievement and contributions.

“Again this year, DCCers went above and beyond to live out DCC’s values of innovation, collaboration and dedication and to deliver exceptional service, solve problems and advance projects to support our Client-Partners,” said Derrick Cheung, President and CEO.

Here are the 2023 winners:

Real Property Operations Group Data Initiatives Leadership Team (Craig Mercer, Atlantic Region; Jonathan Duclos, Quebec Region; Michelle Carriere and Stewart Dafoe, National Capital Region; Barbara Flight, Ontario Region; Nicole Burgess, Western Region; and Caelieh Bell, Pacific Region) for providing the Department of National Defence (DND) with essential data analysis to support infrastructure maintenance. (Service Development Award)

Nadia Tremblay, Team Leader, Project Management, Bagotville, for propelling the infrastructure components of the Future Fighter Capability Project and Defence of Canada Fighter Infrastructure program at 3 Wing. (Customer Satisfaction Award [Individual])

Indigenous Procurement Team (Sean Brushett and Jim Payne, Atlantic Region; Valérie Gélinas, Quebec Region; Justin Bennett, Martine Côté, Joel Fisher and Mark Smith, Head Office; Antoine am Rhyn, Eric Ndayambaza and Stéphanie Tanguay, National Capital Region; Cameron King, Ontario Region; Mason Diduch and Cherry Riley, Western Region; and Mahmoud Farajmandi and Angelica Solyom, Pacific Region) for coming together to build meaningful relationships with Indigenous businesses. (Customer Satisfaction Award [Team])

Heidi Johnson, Team Leader, Project and Program Management, Chilliwack, who steered a two-year effort to reinstate the flood-devastated bank of B.C.’s Slesse Creek, return the water to its original route and decommission a highly toxic burn pit. (Robert Graham Memorial Award)

Ontario Region Student Program Team (Mark Brant, Trenton; and Janice Nunney, Ontario Regional Office), who reworked the DCC student program in Ontario from the ground up to help DCC become an increasingly welcoming place for young professionals. (Innovation Award [Internal Practices])

Hugues Gagnon, Technical Specialist, GIS, Bagotville, who developed an automated data validation tool for CFB Bagotville that can be easily adopted by other service lines, sites and regions. (Innovation Award [Client-Partner Service Delivery])

Bernie Arthurs, Coordinator, Construction Services, Comox, for promoting diversity and inclusion with energy and spirit at his site, across Western Canada and throughout the organization for many years. (Diversity and Inclusion Award)

Carrie Seman, Program Leader, Moose Jaw, for supervising the rapid growth of DCC’s presence at CFB Moose Jaw. She managed large increases in both staff and project value, while delivering exemplary service to the Client-Partner. (National Leadership Award)

Danny Gruner, Regional Director, Pacific Regional Office, for making DCC’s Pacific Regional Office a reality and leading the new regional team as it carried out program expenditures that totalled almost $200 million. (President’s Senior Management Leadership Award)

Paul Leavitt, Coordinator, Construction Services, Gander, who has reached DCC’s gold standard for ingenuity, dedication and professionalism for 15 years. He never stops learning, refuses to rest on his laurels and always steps forward to help. (President’s Award)

Derrick also presented President’s Certificates of Recognition to several employees:

  • Amanda Eid, Procurement Specialist, Contract Services, Head Office, for her decisive role in issuing two large and essential contracts
  • Steven Denault, Site Manager, Chilliwack, for his sterling career of leadership and Client-Partner service
  • The Open Contract Source List Team (Martine Côté and Mark Smith, Head Office) for enabling DCC personnel to comply with the Official Languages Act when preparing technical packages and issuing tenders.

Finally, Karl McQuillan, Vice-President, Operations—Service Delivery presented MGen Martin Gros-Jean, Chief of Staff, ADM(IE), and Chief Military Engineer, with the Friend of DCC Award. MGen Gros-Jean’s support of DCC is testament to his commitment to ensuring DND and DCC work together to fulfill their shared responsibilities.
