As of spring 2019, health care will be provided in a brand new building at the Saint-Jean Garrison. This state-of-the-art clinic, which will feature large windows and modern facilities, will house various units and departments including minor surgery and medical clinic, dental clinic, radiography, physiotherapy, psychology, psychiatry, laboratory, eyewear and pharmacy.

The new centre was built on a vacant lot near the former garrison hospital, which will be demolished because it has become outdated.

The new medical centre will cover an area of 7,000-m2 over two storeys. The LEED-certified centre will include modern and functional spaces and a brand new work environment for health specialists. In addition to a large staff room, the building will offer charging stations for electric cars, carpool parking spaces, a library and modern meeting rooms equipped with the latest technologies.

This project is unique in terms of the complexity of the finishing phase and its multitude of details. Numerous types of specialized medical equipment are to be installed according to specifications (e.g. valving, medical gases). In addition, a number of integrated laboratories are custom-made.

"We have literally built a specialized mini-hospital at the garrison. This is an exceptional building that meets the highest standards of quality, as will the professionals who will work there," said Richard Bélanger, DCC Coordinator, Construction Services.

At a construction cost of $23 million, the new centre should be ready in spring 2019.
