Defence Construction Canada (DCC) is working to support Indigenous youth by building pathways to meaningful, long-term careers.
Through an ongoing partnership with Indspire, DCC awards bursaries to Indigenous students pursuing studies in engineering, planning and environmental sciences, helping reduce financial barriers and supporting academic success. Since 2022, eight students from across the country have received the bursary.
That support extends beyond the classroom. DCC’s Indigenous Youth Work Experience Program provides hands-on opportunities for Indigenous students and emerging professionals to gain real-world experience across the organization. In 2025–2026, DCC welcomed 13 Indigenous students into roles across the organization and supported three in transitioning to permanent positions. From project management offices to construction sites, these experiences offer mentorship and help build practical skills, confidence and lasting connections.
DCC is also engaging with Indigenous youth directly, meeting them where they are and opening the door to future possibilities. On May 13, 2026, three DCC employees attended Indspire’s Soaring: Indigenous Youth Empowerment Gathering in Halifax, connecting with students from across the country. Conversations throughout the day focused on education pathways, career opportunities and the role organizations like DCC can play in supporting success.
Together, these efforts reflect a broader, sustained commitment to reconciliation—one grounded in action. By investing in education, creating meaningful work experiences and engaging with communities, DCC is helping to build a stronger, more inclusive workforce, and supporting Indigenous youth as they build their futures.
In addition to supporting Indigenous youth, DCC is advancing economic reconciliation across its operations. Since 2020, it has hosted 35 business-to-business sessions to connect Indigenous businesses with defence infrastructure opportunities. As a result, in 2025–26, DCC awarded more than $262 million in contracts and subcontracts to Indigenous businesses.
