A new DCC team is taking support to the Department of National Defence (DND) to a whole new—and national—level.
Through its “centrally coordinated, regionally implemented” approach, the National Programs site, which was launched on April 1, 2021, collaborates with DCC colleagues across the country to support national programs and projects and those involving more than one region.
“As our Client-Partner embraces more and more a centralized, holistic approach to real property management, this new team allows DCC to offer services in line with that perspective,” says Michael Palmer, Manager, National Programs with DCC’s National Capital Region in Ottawa.
In addition, several large, multi-location construction projects are ramping up in support of new military equipment—notably, new infrastructure being planned at the air bases in Cold Lake, Alberta, and Bagotville, Quebec, under Canada’s Future Fighter Capability Project—that will benefit from coordinated support.
“We work with the Client-Partner in the planning and scope development stages and with DCC regional and site staff during delivery to ensure joint success,” Palmer explains. This approach also allows greater coordination and efficiency in dealings with industry, he notes.
Increasing high on the team’s to-do list are environmental projects to support greening and sustainability activities as part of the federal Smart Building initiative and ongoing contracts to increase energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions at multiple military establishments across Canada.
“We are building our capacity to gather and analyze data about the emissions the Client-Partner’s national real property portfolio currently generates. This will allow us to offer effective support as DND strives to reach its goal of net zero emissions by 2050.”
