In his nearly 20 years with Defence Construction Canada (DCC), Grant Sayers has held a number of positions across a variety of sites—and his newest role as Vice‑President, Operations–Business Management is an opportunity for him to share his wealth of experience with DCC as a whole.

“I want to have an impact on the organization and really demonstrate that DCC is a fantastic place to work—and to work with, as a Client‑Partner or contractor,” said Sayers, who was until recently Regional Director, Western Region.

For Sayers, DCC’s most valuable asset is its people. There are a variety of opportunities available for staff, and an inclusive environment that allows them to achieve their goals. He wants to focus on ensuring that is strengthened, particularly after the last few years.

“The organization has been through some significant challenges as we navigated the global pandemic. As we’re emerging on the other side, we’re looking at it as a chance to help our culture thrive in this new reality.”

In his new role, Sayers wants to connect with all the regions to really understand what opportunities there are to build on DCC’s mission and values. It is a new challenge that he looks forward to.

“I attribute a lot in my career to the fact that I was always open to trying new things, including different service lines, sites, and regions. It’s been a fantastic opportunity for me and my family,” said Sayers.

The transition also marks a farewell to Ross Welsman, who is retiring from the position after a 24‑year career with DCC.

“I view Ross’s career as a true demonstration of living DCC’s values of dedication, collaboration, competence and fairness,” said Sayers. “Anyone who has worked with Ross can agree that the way he lives those values is an example to all.”

Sayers officially started in his new role on November 14, 2022.
