Defence Construction Canada (DCC) launched a year of celebrations on June 2, 2026, marking 75 years of delivering defence infrastructure for Canada.
Employees from coast to coast to coast gathered in person and online for a national kickoff event, joined by representatives from the Department of National Defence, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), government and industry.
The event opened with a traditional welcome from Elder Vince Kicknosway, followed by remarks from the Honourable Jenna Sudds, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement and to the Secretary of State (Defence Procurement).
DCC President and CEO Derrick Cheung reflected on DCC’s journey since 1951—from a newly-formed post-war organization into a national partner managing infrastructure projects at bases, wings and sites across the country and abroad.
"DCC's legacy is this: we show up when Canada needs us. We build with integrity. We treat people fairly. And we deliver with excellence," said Derrick. "That's who we've been for 75 years—and as Canada enters a period of generational investment in defence, that's who we'll continue to be."
DCC Board Chair Moreen Miller closed the formal program, noting that DCC's reputation has been built "brick by brick, project by project," and that the infrastructure DCC delivers supports the women and men of the CAF in everything they do.
The kickoff is only the beginning. Several national initiatives are planned over the coming months, starting with a summer "DCC Gives Back" experience, bringing employees together as they volunteer in or contribute to the communities in which they live, work and play.
As DCC marks 75 years of service, the focus remains firmly on the future, and on the infrastructure that will support Canada for decades to come.
