DCC runners came out in force to support their DND colleagues and all the men and women serving in Canada’s military at the recent Army Run.
Three DCC teams and at least two individual employees participated in the 5K and half-marathon races, which were held on September 20 in Ottawa.
One of the members of the Head Office men’s team was new DCC President and CEO James Paul. “DCC’s strong participation attests to the close ties and working relationship between DCC and DND,” he says. “It was wonderful to see everyone out on the course, and I encourage more DCC runners to join us next year.”
The DCC men’s team from Head Office was fourth in the open men’s 5K team race, while the women’s Head Office team finished sixth in the open women’s 5K team race. A team of women from Borden also participated in that race, coming in seventh. David Shantz and Réjean Vaillancourt of the National Operations Group both ran the half-marathon.
Founded just last year, the Army Run is the fastest growing race in Canada, with 11,000 people participating in 2009. It was launched as a way for the military to thank its civilian supporters but has also proven to be a great way for Canadians to get behind the troops.
